Kababayan Committee
AKA Kaba
Kababayan, or Kaba for short, is the Tagalog word for 'fellow country people.' The committee seeks to empower students to take action on the various social, political, economic, and cultural issues affecting today's Filipinx community, here and in the homeland. Kaba is active through workshops, conferences, speaker series, and other initiatives, to learn how to better serve our kababayan. Some of the topics that Kaba addresses are immigration, education, workers' rights, human rights, and the Filipinx/Filipinx-American experience. The committee, along with the rest of PASU, allies itself with the National Alliance for Filipino Concerns (NAFCON), Kapit Bisig Kabataan Network, Anakbayan Silicon Valley and other organizations in the Bay Area.
Kaba Co-Chairs
Keoni Rodriguez
Kumusta everyone! My name is Keoni Rodriguez and I was born and raised in Mira Mesa (Manila Mesa) in San Diego, on occupied Kumeyaay Territory. My father is from Antipolo City, Rizal and my mother is from Kaimuki, O'ahu. I'm super stoked be able to serve as a co-chair for the Kababayan committee. I am ready to commit to community building/education, coalition building on campus, and empowering PASU members to realize their full potential! I'm a History major studying American imperialism in the Philippines and Hawai'i from 1850-1959. Outside of school and organizing work, I love to play basketball, work out, read, play music, and have good conversations, so hmu if you're down to do any of that together. I'm excited to build, educate, and activate with all of y'all this year!

Sagada Peñano
Hi! My name is Sagada (she/her) and I'm one of the Kababayan co-chairs for this year. I'm a sophomore who is passionate about social justice and accessible education, as well as physics, music, bikes, and the outdoors. As a Kaba intern last year, I was made aware of the various Pilipinx-American issues that affect our community every day and was inspired to take action. If you ever want to talk about Pilipinx history, go for a bike ride, or have a jam session, hit me up!

Daniella Caluza
Hi y'all! I'm Daniella - a junior majoring in Comparative Studies in Race and Ethnicity and (attempting to) minoring in Symbolic Systems! I was born in Makati, Philippines, but grew up in Stockton, CA (shoutout 209!!). PASU, and Kaba in particular, have been really influential in shaping my time at Stanford - from learning history to sparking my interests in activism and organizing. Outside of PASU, you can catch me doing things with the first-gen and/or low-income (FLI) community, napping, or hanging out with friends. I'm super excited to get to know everyone this year, so please feel free to hit me up if you have questions or wanna hang out!
